Freeport is located between Destin and Panama City in Walton County in Northwest Florida. This quaint community rests just north of the Choctawhatchee Bay. Freeport geographically transitions North and South Walton County. You can travel to and from this area easily with Hwy 331 and the Hwy 331 By-pass. Travel to the area will become even easier with the opening of The Panama City-Bay County International Airport scheduled for completion in May 2010. Many locals choose to call this rustic location home to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding cities. Freeprt is just a short drive to the beautiful Emerald Coast beaches, shopping, dining, golfing and entertainment.
Several new residential developments have just been completed in the area including, Hammock Bay, a 3,000 acre community with lots of modern amenities and Windswept Dunes offering golf front living with one of Florida's longest golf courses.
Freeport Shipyard and Murphy Oil dominate the original port area in LaGrange Bayou and Eglin Air Force Base and Duke Field are located near by. Outdoor activities, fishing, boating, parks and a rich history are all a part of this progressive, yet small city.
DeFuniak Springs is located at Interstate 10 and Hwy 331, just a short drive north of Florida's Emerald Coast beaches. This city holds the county seat for Walton County. Rich history and southern tradition abounds in this small town filled with beautiful historic homes and buildings. Florida's oldest library still in operation is located here as well as the Hotel DeFuniak, The Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood, and the Walton County Museum.
DeFuniak Springs is home to one of only two perfectly round natural lakes in the world. Southern historic homes surround the lake and the holiday tradition of Christmas Reflections, which guides tours around the lake and decorated homes, draws crowds from around the world.
Hunting, fishing, horseback riding, golfing and boating will allow you to soak up the rural beauty of this area.
